    • Whether two column series are drawn back to back across a shared axis — a population pyramid, or a Likert scale split around a neutral midpoint.

      amCharts has no diverging series: the chart is two ordinary column series on one category axis with one side's values negated, which is otherwise the signature of a dodged bar chart. What separates them is the sign — one series entirely on each side of the baseline, over the same categories in the same order — and that is a statement about the data rather than about how it was drawn, so it is decisive where a styling probe would not be.

      Both sides must actually reach their side of the baseline: a pair of series that are merely non-negative is every dodged bar chart ever drawn.
